65 C Coupe

George McMurtry

This 356 was purchased new in Europe by a Lt Colonel in the Air Force who drove it there, brought it back to the states and then was reassigned to Sweden in the mid 70's. He took the ferry to Germany and drove the car to the factory in 1975 and got the last original C engine replacement that the factory had. I have the transplant paperwork from Porsche. He wrote the story about the car and I have it. He made sure to remind future owners that the fan shroud on the transplant engine was black, not grey. He had bull hooks welded to the underside fairly early on to use as tiedowns on the ships to and from Europe. These have been removed along with the mud flaps that were mandatory in Sweden. The right side mirror was also mandated in Sweden and remains today - as useless as it was then. The 356 was finally sold to a Pasadena resident and I purchased it from him several years ago.
